Observation

What is the Christian’s responsibility to civil authorities? What does it mean to “clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ”?

Application

Who are the authorities in my life, and how do I respond to them? How does this passage apply in America, where the citizens are the highest human governmental authority in the land? How would my life be different if I “wore” Jesus Christ, and what do I need to do to ensure a better “fit”?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, I pray for the civil authorities in my land. I ask that they would be Your ministers for righteousness, punishing evildoers and protecting the innocent. May Your people willingly pay the taxes they should to suport the government you have put in place. May we be good examples of the way Christians live in society. Help us to pay our debts, especially the continuing debt to love one another, through which the Law is fulfilled. I pray that we would understand the present time: the hour has come for us to wake up from our slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night of this world order is nearly over and the Day of the Lord is almost here. So let me put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let me behave decently, as in the daytime, and not wickedly in the darkness of sexual sins and base desires, dissensions, and jealousy. Rather, enable me to clothe myself with the Lord Jesus Christ, not thinking about how to gratify the desires of the old sinful nature. In the precious Name of Jesus I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Amy & Debbie Brueggemann
  • Chris Carlton
  • Travis & Hali Davidson
  • Mike Daniels
  • Theresa Daniels
  • Brian & Eileen Davis

Missionaries:

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

CLF:

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for Outreach Ministries

  • God’s creative provision
  • For sound financial management and strategies
  • Salvation and spiritual growth for those to whom they minister
  • God’s anointing and leading for projects and programs
  • Volunteers and workers

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. – John 15:4
