Observation

Where are we to set our hearts and minds? How are we to treat our sin nature?

Application

Do I focus more on earthly things or eternal things? Do I starve my sin nature or feed it? What results am I seeing from my behavior regarding these matters?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord, Thank You that I have been raised with Christ. Therefore, I want to set my heart on things above, where Christ is seated at Your right hand. I desire to set my mind on things above, not on earthly things. For I died, and my life is now hidden with Christ in You. Thank You that when Christ, who is my life, appears, then I also will appear with Him in glory. Strengthen me to put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to my earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, Your wrath is coming. I used to walk in these ways, in the life I once lived. But now help me rid myself of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from my lips. May I not not lie, since I have taken off my old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in Your image. Here there is no difference as to race, former religious practices, culture, or position, but Christ is all, and is in all.

Therefore, as one of Your chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe me with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Remind me to bear with others and forgive whatever grievances I may have against anyone–enable me to forgive as You forgave me. And over all these virtues may I put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in my heart, since as a member of one body I was called to peace. And give me a heart that is always thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in Your people richly as we teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as we sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to You. And whatever I do, whether in word or deed, may I do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to You, Father, through Him.

I ask that Christian wives would submit to their husbands, as is fitting in the Lord, and that husbands would love their wives and not be harsh with them. I pray for Christian children, that they would obey their parents in everything, for this pleases You. May Christian fathers not embitter their children, that they will not become discouraged. May Christian workers and servants obey those who are in authority over them in everything, and do it, not only when their eye is on them and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for You. And may those in authority provide for those under their leadership with what is right and fair, remembering that they also have a master in heaven. Whatever we do, I pray that we would work at it with all our hearts, as working for You, not for men, since we know that we will receive an inheritance from You as a reward and that it is the Lord Christ we are serving, and anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, for there is no favoritism. I ask all this in the Name of Jesus, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Amy & Debbie Brueggemann
  • Chris Carlton
  • Travis & Hali Davidson
  • Mike Daniels
  • Theresa Daniels
  • Brian & Eileen Davis

Missionaries:

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

CLF:

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for Teachers & Administrators & School Boards

  • Godly curriculum
  • God’s wisdom in teaching and leading
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Ability to inspire a love of truth and learning

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. – James 1:22
