Observation

How does the story of Hagar and Sarah correlate with the two covenants? What is meant by the quote “A little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough”?

Application

Am I living like “a child of the free woman” or “a child of the slave woman”? How can I live out my freedom in Christ and still please Him with sacrificial obedience? Have I allowed “a little yeast” to creep into my life?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, Thank You for making me a child of promise. It is for freedom that Christ has set me free; therefore, empower me to stand firm in that freedom and not allow myself to become burdened again by a yolk of slavery. May I never try to earn a right standing with You through rituals or regulations. Rather, help me to rest in the knowledge that Jesus has made me right with You for eternity. May that faith constantly remain, expressing itself in love. Help me to continue to run a good race, without allowing the “yeast” of any false doctrine or philosophy to infiltrate my life, until You call me home or Christ returns. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)
