Scripture

11 John 5:13-21 (NET)

(1) I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. (14) And this is the confidence that we have before him: that whenever we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. (15) And if we know that he hears us in regard to whatever we ask, then we know that we have the requests that we have asked from him. (16) If anyone sees his fellow Christian committing a sin not resulting in death, he should ask, and God will grant life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death. There is a sin resulting in death. I do not say that he should ask about that. (17) All unrighteousness is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death. (18) We know that everyone fathered by God does not sin, but God protects the one he has fathered, and the evil one cannot touch him. (19) We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. (20) And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us insight to know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one is the true God and eternal life. (21) Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

Observation

How do we know God hears and answers prayer? How should we act when we see a fellow Christian in sin?

Application

Do I come before God in prayer in confidence? Do I pray for my fellow Christians?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Lord God, I believe in the name of the Son of God so I know that I have eternal life. And this is the confidence that I have before You: that whenever I ask anything according to Your will, You hear me. And because I know that You hear me in regard to whatever I ask, I know that I have the requests that I have asked from You. If I see my fellow Christian committing a sin not resulting in death, I ask that You will grant life to the person who commits a sin not resulting in death. There is a sin resulting in death–I do not ask about that. All unrighteousness is sin, but there is sin not resulting in death. I know that everyone fathered by You does not sin, but You protect the ones You have fathered, and the evil one cannot touch us. We know that we are from You, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that Your Son has come and has given us insight to know You, the one who is true, and we are in You and in Your Son Jesus Christ. You are the only true God and our eternal life. Help us to guard ourselves from idols–anything that would take Your place as first and foremost in our lives. I pray this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
