Psalm 79

Observation

What is Asaph upset about the defeat of Israel (1)? Why does he ask for God’s help (9)?

Application

Do I focus on my interests and motives or on God’s? Do I ask for Him to answer my prayer for my own selfish reasons or for His glory?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, I pray for my nation today. It has fallen into a deep pit of sin. The enemies of righteousness have turned it into a slaughterhouse of unborn babies, an orgy of sexual perversion, and a country where it is becoming a crime to speak truth in Your Name. On behalf of Your people–Your remnant–that remain in this once great nation, I ask that You do not hold past sins against us; let Your compassion come to us quickly, for we have become weak. God of our salvation, help us–for the glory of Your name. Deliver us and atone for our sins, because of Your name. Then we, Your people, the sheep of Your pasture, will thank You forever; we will declare Your praise to generation after generation. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for area pastors and their families:

  • Encouragement
  • Faithfulness in the Lord’s work
  • Finances
  • Marriage/family relationships
  • Work/life balance
  • Deep friendships and support from other Christian leaders

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
No one undergoing a trial should say, “I am being tempted by God.” For God is not tempted by evil, and He Himself doesn’t tempt anyone. But each person is tempted when he is drawn away and enticed by his own evil desires. Then after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is fully grown, it gives birth to death. – James 1:13-15 (HCSB)
