Observation

Why does the psalmist ask for God to sustain him (116-117)? On what basis does he ask God to deal with him (124)? How highly does he regard God’s word (127)?

Application

Do I ask for God’s protection and provision for my own comfort, or to bring glory to God? Do I think God somehow “owes it to me” to bless me, or do I understand my relationship with him is based purely on HIS faithful love? Do I love God’s word more than even the purest gold?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, You are my shelter and my shield; I put my hope in Your word. I choose to believe You that You will sustain me as You promised, and I will live not be ashamed of my hope. Sustain me so that I can be safe and be concerned with Your word continually, and bring glory to You. Deal with Your servant based on Your faithful love; teach me Your statutes. I am Your servant; give me understanding so that I may know Your decrees. Give me a heart that loves Your word more than gold, even the purest gold, and a will that carefully follows all Your precepts and hates every false way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

Operation Christmas Child:

  • Pray that the boxes will open doors for children to hear the Good News in parts of the world that are typically closed to proclaiming the Gospel.

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Media Industries (TV/Movies, Radio/Music, Print/Internet)

  • Godly themes/influences
  • Christian workers at all levels sensitive to God’s leading
  • Salvation for influential media leaders
  • Courage to share God’s message
  • Financial rewards for wholesome media

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
To Him who loves us and has set us free from our sins by His blood, and made us a kingdom, priests to His God and Father–to Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. – Revelation 1:5b-6 (HCSB)
