Observation

What happened when Mary greeted Elizabeth? What are the key points of Mary’s song (46-55)? Of Zechariah’s prophecy (68-79)?

Application

Do I “leap for joy” at the thought of my Savior’s coming? Do I proclaim God’s greatness and rejoice in God my Savior? Do I thank God for fulfilling His promises and providing salvation?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father in Heaven, Give me a joy for my Savior that John the Baptist had, even while in the womb! My soul proclaims Your greatness, Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, because You have looked with favor on the humble, helpless condition of mankind and sent Your son by the Holy Spirit through the Virgin Mary. You have done great things for me, and Your name is holy. Your mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear You. You have toppled the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly. You have kept Your promise to Israel, mindful of Your mercy, just as You spoke to Abraham and his descendants forever.

Praise to You, Lord, the God of Israel, because You have visited and provided redemption for Your people. You have raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of Your servant David, just as You spoke by the mouth of Your holy prophets in ancient times; salvation from our enemies and from the clutches of those who hate us. You have dealt mercifully with our fathers and remembered Your holy covenant–the oath that You swore to our father Abraham. You have given us the privilege, since we have been rescued from our enemies’ clutches, to serve You without fear in holiness and righteousness in Your presence all our days. Lead me in Your work to give people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins. Because of Your merciful compassion, the Dawn from on high came to us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. Thank You, Father!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
