January 15, 2010 – A Prayer for CLF, Revisited

Posted on January 15, 2013

Are you STILL praying for your church family?

On May 10, 2011, I preached from Ephesians 3. In this wonderful chapter, Paul speaks about the unity of believers with God and each other because of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The chapter closes with one of the most beautiful prayers in the entire Bible. At the end of that sermon, I challenged everyone at CLF to pray that prayer for CLF every day for the next 30 days.

I want to revisit that challenge today. Or perhaps I should say, I want to reinstate that challenge today.

As we look at the past year and a half at CLF, we see a lot of changes. We’ve had some people get married. A few people have moved on. We have had a LOT of visitors, and a number of them have “stuck.” We have grown, both numerically and in unity. God has richly blessed us, and I have never been so optimistic about where we are and where we are headed. But I believe God wants to bless us MORE, and grow us MORE, and show His love and power in and through us MORE!

As I said when I made the original challenge: “I believe that if we want God to truly bless this body, we have to come together in unity and ASK for His blessing in FAITH! Will you answer the challenge? Offer this prayer (pasted below) sincerely in faith at least once daily for at least the next month, and let’s join together in expecting God to work!”

But this is not the original challenge. This is a revisit and a reinstatement. I am urging you to join with me in praying the following prayer, in FAITH, EVERY DAY through the next two and half months–until March 31. I’m asking you to commit to this and to follow through on that commitment. I am asking you to pray it individually, as families, and together with CLF friends when you meet for lunch, coffee, or dinner. I’m asking you to pray it in your small group Bible studies (yes we are starting some of those). I’m asking you to pray it as you go through the list of people each day in the “LIFe with God” devotional. I believe God is ready, willing, and able to move mightily among us, and I believe that when we pray according to His will, He hears and He answers. And as this prayer comes straight out of Scripture and describes His will for the church, I KNOW He WILL answer us!

I pray YOU will get as excited as I am about this challenge, take it seriously, follow through on it in FAITH, and wait with eager anticipation to see what God will do! I praise Him in advance for His mighty work!

A Prayer for CLF

For this reason I kneel before You, Father, the One from whom every family in heaven and on the earth is named. I pray that according to the wealth of Your glory You may grant me and every person in Your flock at Christian Life Fellowship:

  • to be strengthened with power through Your Spirit in our inner persons,
  • that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith,
  • that we would be rooted and grounded in love,
  • that we may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth of Christ’s love,
  • and thus that we would know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that we may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

Now to You, Lord, who by the power You are working within us is able to do immeasurably beyond all we could ask or imagine, to You be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever! Amen.
