Observation

What does this chapter teach regarding employee/employer (slave/master) relationships? What does Paul teach regarding protecting sound doctrine?

Application

Do I have the kind of relationship with my employer/clients described in this chapter? Do I “fight the good fight for the faith”?

Prayer

Dear Father, Help me to regard my employer (or clients) to be worthy of all respect, so that Your name and teaching will not be blasphemed. If they are believers, may I not be disrespectful to them because they are brothers, but rather help me serve them better, since those who benefit from my service are believers and dearly loved. May I always agree with the sound teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ, and not manipulate the gospel of Your people for material gain. Remind me that godliness with contentment is a great gain. For I brought nothing into the world, and I can take nothing out. But if I have food and clothing, I will be content with these. Keep me from the love of money, a root of all kinds of evil. Rather, may I run from that and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. Instruct me and strengthen me to fight the good fight for the faith and take hold of eternal life that I was called to. Help me to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, willing to share, storing up a good reserve for the age to come, so that I may take hold of life that is real. May I guard what has been entrusted to me, avoiding irreverent, empty speech and contradictions from the “knowledge” that falsely bears that name. By professing it, some people have deviated from the faith. For You are the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, the only One who has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; no one has seen or can see You, to You be honor and eternal might. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz
  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luc)
  • Keith Rast

Ministry:

  • Boise Rescue Mission

CLF:

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Unity in the Body of Christ…

  • that we would be united in our love for Jesus and each other
  • that we would encourage and support each other
  • that we would focus on Biblical principles in every arena of our lives
  • that we would have a spirit of cooperation in outreach
  • that Satan’s divisive strategies would be confounded

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
instruct certain people not to teach different doctrine or to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies. These promote empty speculations rather than God’s plan, which operates by faith. – 1 Timothy 1:3b-4 (HCSB)
