Observation

Why did Pilate wash his hands in front of the crowd? What caused the centurion and those with him to declare that Jesus was God’s Son?

Application

Do I try to get away from guilt and shame by “washing my hands of the matter” when, in fact, I’ve done nothing to make it right? Can I declare with certainty that Jesus truly is God’s Son?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Jesus, From the depths of my heart and without apology I proclaim that You and You alone are the Messiah, the Son of God who takes away the sin of the world. Thank You for loving me and the people of the world enough to suffer and die for us so that we can live for You. Help me to stand up for what is right, not shirk responsibility to avoid blame as Pilate did. Help to ever proclaim as the centurion did: “Truly, this one is God’s Son!” In Your name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Fred & Gwen Iovine
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for the elderly…

  • That they will be treated respectfully
  • That they will not dwell on mistakes and regret
  • That God will provide for their health and finances
  • That God will protect them from those who would try to harm them
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Any broken family relationships restored before they pass on

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
And the King will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ – Matthew 25:40 (HCSB)
