Scripture

1 Samuel 2

Observation

What does Hannah’s prayer tell us about her? What were the sins of Eli’s sons, and why were they so egregious? How was Samuel in comparison to them? What was the far-reaching consequence of Eli allowing his sons’ behavior to go unchecked?

Application

Do I praise God and give Him glory when He moves in my life? Do I allow my own sins and the sins of those in my charge to continue unimpeded? Am I more like Samuel or like Eli’s sons? Do I consider that my sins may well have serious consequences for others?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father God, My heart rejoices in the LORD; my horn is lifted up by the LORD. My mouth proclaims Your victory and I rejoice in Your salvation. Keep me from pride and arrogance, for You are the God of knowledge who weighs actions. You provide all good things for those who are Yours. You bring death and life, allowing some to go to the grave and raising others up. You bring poverty and wealth; you humble and exalt. You raise the poor from the dust and lift the needy from the garbage pile. You seat them with noblemen and give them a throne of honor. For the foundations of the earth are Yours; You set the world on them. You guard the steps of Your faithful ones, but the wicked perish in darkness, for a man does not prevail by his own strength. Those who oppose You will be shattered; You will thunder in the heavens against them. You will judge the ends of the earth. You will give power to Your king; You will lift up the horn of Your anointed, Jesus Christ. May I walk in Your will and Your way, that I might grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with men. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola

Missionaries:

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

CLF:

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for Media Industries (TV/Movies, Radio/Music, Print/Internet)

  • Godly themes/influences
  • Christian workers at all levels sensitive to God’s leading
  • Salvation for influential media leaders
  • Courage to share God’s message
  • Financial rewards for wholesome media
