Scripture

1 Samuel 4

Observation

The men of Israel decided to take the Ark of the Covenant into battle, instead of waiting to hear direction from God whether to do so. What was the result for Israel and for Eli and his family?

Application

Do I have a tendency to use God like a talisman or good luck charm instead of walking in faith and obedience? When I step out on my own and face the consequences, do I blame my defeat on God?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
My Father and my God, Help me to learn from the mistakes of Israel and of Eli and his sons, so that I will not make the same mistakes. May I never treat You like some kind of magic spell or good luck charm and expect everything to go my way–rather, may I always wait to hear from You and obey. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

Ministry:

  • Genesis World Mission

CLF:

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for young children in our community

  • For Godly influences
  • For safety and protection from accidents, abuse, and predators
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For a heart to learn and to know God from a young age
  • That they will not be prodigals, but remain true to God all the days of their lives

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
But You, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, and the One who lifts up my head. – Psalm 3:3 (HCSB)
