Scripture

1 Samuel 14

Observation

What did Jonathan’s statement in verse 6 reveal about his heart? How did his armor-bearer respond? In what ways did Saul reveal his foolishness and selfishness? How did the troops fall into sin, and what was the result (37)? What foolish action did Saul nearly take against Jonathan and how was it averted?

Application

Is my heart more like Jonathan’s or Saul’s? Do I make rash oaths and foolish promises?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father God, Keep me from the foolishness of Saul and give me a heart of faith and courage like that of Jonathan. May I not fall into the trap of unconsidered oaths and promises. May I serve and follow You such that other believers can say of me, “He worked with God’s help today.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn (Josiah)
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Deborah Halkola

Missionaries:

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

CLF:

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
For the grace of God has appeared with salvation for all people, instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age, while we wait for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. – Titus 2:11-13 (HCSB)
