Observation

Why was Zechariah struck mute? How was Mary’s response to the angel similar to Zechariah’s? How was it different?

Application

How do I respond when I hear from God? Am I more like Zechariah or Mary?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Blessed God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, As I read the account of the angel’s visits to Zechariah and then to Mary, I am first struck by the awesome news of the coming events he declared. But then, I am convicted, for I see myself in the disbelieving spirit of Zechariah. Father, You can do anything. When I hear from You, give me a faith and a heart that respond like Mary: “I am the Lord’s slave. May it be done to me according to Your word.” I thank You in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for young children in our community

  • For Godly influences
  • For safety and protection from accidents, abuse, and predators
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For a heart to learn and to know God from a young age
  • That they will not be prodigals, but remain true to God all the days of their lives

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to attest these things to you for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright Morning Star.” – Revelation 22:16 (HCSB)
