Observation

What is the yeast of the Pharisees? Why shouldn’t Christ’s followers live in fear or worry?

Application

Am I on my guard against “the yeast of the Pharisees”? Do I worry about my safety and security and daily needs, or do I trust God to provide all of these?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear God my Father, Help me to stay on my guard against hypocrisy, for there is nothing covered that won’t be uncovered, nothing hidden that won’t be made known. And help me not to fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more. For not one sparrow is forgotten in Your sight, and I am worth more to You than many sparrows–indeed, the hairs of my head are all counted! May I ever acknowledge Jesus Christ as Your Son before men, for I know He will acknowledge me before Your angels. Help me to be on guard against greed, because my life is not in the abundance of possessions, but in You. So may I not worry about my life–what I will eat or what I will wear or all of the other worries this world and the forces of Satan try to throw at me. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing. Help me not to keep striving for what I should eat and drink. Keep me from being anxious. For You know what I need and You have promised to provide it if I will seek first Your kingdom. I ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus, Jack)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover
  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Darrell & Fralina Leatham

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Star and Eagle

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal encouragement and good hope by grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good work and word. – 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (HCSB)
