Observation

What is the point of the first parable in this passage? Of the second?

Application

Do I pray to God in faith? Is my heart more like the Pharisee’s or the tax collector’s?

Prayer

Dear Father, Help me to come to You in prayer with faith. I trust that You are a loving God who hears me when I pray. Keep me from any self-righteousness. I come to You aware that I am a sinner, and that it is by Your grace and mercy in the cross of Christ alone that has removed me from Your wrath and judgment. Give me a heart like a child to welcome Your kingdom. May I never let worldly wealth keep me from following You. I ask this for Jesus’ sake and in His name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Tris & Chris Miller
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael & Jenn Morgan

Ministry:

  • Christian Pro-Life Ministries in Idaho (Idaho Chooses Life, Stanton Health Care, etc)

CLF:

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for Media Industries (TV/Movies, Radio/Music, Print/Internet)

  • Godly themes/influences
  • Christian workers at all levels sensitive to God’s leading
  • Salvation for influential media leaders
  • Courage to share God’s message
  • Financial rewards for wholesome media

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted. – Luke 14:11 (HCSB)
