John 16

What does the disciples’ grief prevent them from understanding? Why was it good that Jesus was going away? What is the work of the Holy Spirit?

In what ways do I see the Holy Spirit working in my life and guiding me into all truth? How can I encourage and comfort those stricken by grief? How does knowing that one day I will see Jesus and not have to ask for anything affect the way I live my daily life?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord Jesus, may I never go astray from You and Your Word, no matter what the world throws at me. I thank You that You went to the Father, and it was a good thing, because it allowed the Holy Spirit to come and be present in the life of every true believer.
Thank You, Holy Spirit, for convicting the world regarding sin, because they do not believe in Jesus; regarding righteousness, because He has gone to the Father; and regarding judgment, because Satan stands condemned. Thank You for guiding me into all truth–open my eyes to see it and strengthen my will to follow it. Thank You for bringing glory to Christ by making what is His known to me.
Father, I thank You that even though I may weep and mourn while the world around me rejoices in its evil, there will come a Day when that grief will turn to joy–when Jesus returns and makes all things new–and I will greatly rejoice and no one can take away my joy. I thank You that if I ask anything in Jesus’ name according to Your will, I will receive it from You and my joy will be complete. Thank You, Father, for loving me while I was still a sinner, and for loving me now because I love Jesus and believe He came from You.
Lord Jesus, thank You for telling me these things so that I may have peace in You. Though I will have trouble in this world, remind me to take heart, for You have overcome the world! Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – John 1:12
