Scripture

John 21

Observation

Why did Jesus tell the disciples to cast their net on the other side of the boat? What does their response teach us? What is notable about Peter’s “reinstatement” in relation to his denial of Jesus a few chapters ago? How did Jesus respond when Peter brought up John’s future?

Application

In what ways is Jesus telling me to do things differently than the way I have been doing them? How should I respond when I see Him at work in life? What does His interaction with Peter in this passage teach me about my past shortcomings? What should my attitude be regarding His plan for other believers I know?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord Jesus, You know all things. You are the creator and sustainer of all things. When I am frustrated and failing as the disciples were on this fishing trip, help me to listen for Your voice and to heed Your instruction. And when Your hand is at work, help me to recognize that it is You doing it, and may I always respond in praise. Just as You invited the disciples to fellowship with You, may I daily come to the table You prepare for me and share in the bounty of fellowship with my Lord. I thank You that You forgave Peter for denying You, and I thank You that You forgive me for the times I’ve denied You. Help me not to dwell on my failures and so wallow in self-pity and defeat, but rather may I focus on Your forgiveness and move forward, serving You gratefully. Help me not to worry about what You may or may not have in store for others, but to focus on what You want for and from me. In Your Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

Ministry:

  • Boise Rescue Mission

CLF:

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit – Titus 3:5
