Acts 13

What was the church in Antioch doing when the Holy Spirit spoke to them and gave them a mission? How did Paul respond to the false prophet who was trying to countermand his teaching? In Paul’s sermon, what does he teach is the central meaning of the resurrection for his listeners (verses 38-39)?

Do I ever spend time fasting as I pray and worship and seek God? What can I learn from this passage about responding to evil men who try to “spin” the Word of God? When I am sharing the Gospel with someone who believes that You have to be good to get into heaven, how can I use this passage to witness to them?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord, I rarely seek You as earnestly as I can or should. Place in my heart such a strong desire for You that I will be willing to skip meals in order to spend time praying and worshiping You and seeking Your direction. I thank You for Your promise through the prophet Jeremiah that I WILL find You if I seek You with all of my heart. And when I hear Your voice during these times of fasting and seeking, strengthen me to obey You and carry out Your mission.
Lord, so many Christians today seem more worried about not offending anyone than they are about standing up for You and Your truth. When wicked men try to skew Your Word for their own ends to the detriment of those who would come to Christ, help me to boldly speak the truth and rebuke them, regardless of any offense that might cause. There are so many people out there, Lord, trying to earn their way into eternity with You, and living under a terrible burden of guilt and shame, and feeling overwhelmed. Help me and other believers to effectively communicate to these people that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to them; that through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything they could not be justified from by the law. Thank You, Lord, for that wonderful message of Your saving grace! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for our national leaders

  • God’s anointing on them and a desire in them to follow Him
  • For Jesus to once again be Lord and King over our nation
  • For the president and cabinet to seek after God
  • For judges to rule justly and righteously
  • For senators & representatives to pass godly legislation and block sinful bills
  • That our government would protect its citizens and punish evildoers

I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life. – John 5:24
