Acts 23

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

In what way and for what reason does Paul show his respect for the Jewish law? Why does he shift the topic from the law to the resurrection of the dead? How does the Roman commander thwart the plot to have Paul killed?

Do I share Paul’s respect for the Old Testament? Why or why not? Is the power of the Resurrection of Christ and the hope of the resurrection of His saints a force at work in my daily life? Why or why not? Do I actively intervene on behalf of those who are being treated unfairly and unjustly?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father in Heaven, I ask that You will encourage and strengthen me to fulfill my duty to You in all good conscience. Help me to honor and respect the whole of Your Word. I pray that Your resurrection power would be of prime importance in every aspect of my life. Help me to take courage and testify about You wherever You call me to do so. I pray that You will thwart the plans of Satan and of evil men who desire to quash the Gospel and keep it from being preached. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Scott & Kristi Guinn
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Patrick Hall
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Public Service Professionals (Firefighters, Law enforcement, and medical personnel)…

  • Strength to serve well
  • Safety/health
  • Salvation for lost & ministry opportunities for saved
  • Strong family/marriage relationships
  • Strong, god-honoring friendships
