Acts 5

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Were Ananias and Sapphira required to sell their land and give all the proceeds to the church? How did they sin? Why were these early believers highly regarded by all the people, yet disdained and persecuted by the religious leaders? How did God provide for their welfare?

Why do you think God’s punishment of Ananias and Sapphira was so severe and immediate? What does this passage teach about hypocrisy? About using the church to further our own ends? If we truly believed God can deliver us from any situation to further His work, how would our lives be different?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Oh, God my Father, May I never try to deceive You or Your people. Search me and show me if there are things I’m trying to hide from You or deceptive ways in which I’m trying to make myself look better to others. I ask that Your Holy Spirit would fill my heart and Satan would find no room in it. I ask that I would have fear and reverence toward You, in equal measure with love and gratitude. I thank You that You are the great healer, and I ask that You will move me to pray for Your healing for those who are sick and infirm. I ask that You would grant me and my brothers and sisters in Christ a compassionate heart and a godly lifestyle that will cause us to be highly regarded by all the people. I thank You that You are our Deliverer, our Refuge, Our Shield, and our Tower–a very present help in trouble–and I pray that You would give us boldness to speak out for You and to keep on doing so, trusting You to provide for us. Help me to make obeying You the highest priority in my life. I ask that You would strengthen me to rejoice when I suffer for the Name of Jesus, and to continue teaching every day that Jesus is the Savior the world is looking for. In His Name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael Morgan

  • Provenance
  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.
