Observation

What is our obligation? What kind of spirit did we receive? What is causing all of creation to groan?

Application

How does knowing that I am an heir of God and co-heir of Christ Jesus affect me and the way I live? What is my attitude toward times of suffering, and what should it be according to this passage?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, I ask today that You will empower me to live by Your Spirit. Remind me to put to death the misdeeds of the body and not live by the sinful nature. As Your child, I am led by Your Spirit. Strengthen me to obey that Spirit, for I did not receive a spirit of fear, but the Spirit of sonship, by which I may call You my Father. I thank You that the Holy Spirit testifies with my spirit that I am, in fact, Your child, and if I’m Your child than I am also Your heir and a co-heir with Christ. I ask that You would remind me even in my suffering that Christ suffered for me–help me to use my suffering to draw closer to Him. Thank You that the suffering I go through in this life isn’t even worth comparing to the glory that I will share with Him for all eternity. With eager anticipation, I look forward to the day when You will redeem all who believe in Christ, and with the whole of creation I groan inwardly as I await my adoption as Your child, the redemption of my body. This is the hope in which I was saved, and though I have not yet seen it, I believe it and hope for it and wait patiently for it, knowing You always keep Your promises in Your perfect timing. In the precious Name of Jesus my Savior I pray, Amen!
