Observation

Why was Israel’s pursuit of righteousness unsuccessful (9:31-32)? How does one become saved? What does it mean to confess “Jesus is Lord”?

Application

Based on 10:1-3, how would you respond to the people who say, “It doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you’re sincere”? Do you ever find yourself living as if your relationship with God is based on what you do, rather than on what He has done?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Father in Heaven, Thank You that, though I did not pursue righteousness, through faith in Christ I have attained it. I lift up to You the people I know who have pursued it but not obtained it, because they pursue it not by faith but as if by works. I pray Lord that they would accept Your righteousness through Christ rather than stumbling over Him. My heart’s desire and prayer to You is for Israel and for all sincere unsaved Gentiles to come to Christ. Though they may have zeal, it is not based on knowledge. By trying to establish their own righteousness, they are not submitting to Yours. Open their eyes, Father, and turn their hearts toward Christ, the end of the Law, so that there may be righteousness for all who believe. I thank You that salvation is near, in the words of the mouth of the one who will confess that Jesus is Lord of all and the only way to righteousness. Everyone who confesses that and believes that You have raised Him from the dead will be saved. I thank You that because I trust Him, I will never be put to shame. I thank You that ethnic background, nationality, and the other things that separate us from each other in the eyes of the world do not matter to You–the same Lord is Lord of all of us, and You richly bless all who call on You and save them. Help me to be a witness of Jesus Christ, that men will hear and believe in Him. In His Name I ask this, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Scott & Kristi Guinn
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Patrick Hall
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Star and Eagle

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
