Observation

What is Paul’s motivation and inspiration? Why was the collection for needy believers in Jerusalem such a priority for him? What does he urge the Roman Christians to watch out for?

Application

What is my ambition in life, and how does it compare to Paul’s? To what is God calling me in the work of His kingdom? How should I respond to people who claim to be believers yet cause division and obstacles and teach false doctrine?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, I ask that You would fill me with Your goodness and make me complete in knowledge and competent to instruct others through my study of Your Word and devotion to prayer. Make me willing to listen to and learn from other Christians, too. I pray that I would be an offering acceptable to You, sanctified by the Holy Spirit. May I ever glory in Christ Jesus in my service to You, Father. Help me to guard my tongue and not to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished in me, and to obey You in word and deed through the power of the Holy Spirit. Make my ambition to fully proclaim the Gospel wherever You lead me. I ask that You would give me a heart that is generous and pleased to contribute to fellow believers in need around the world. By the love of Christ and of the Spirit, prod me to join those on the mission field by praying for them. I ask that they would be rescued from unbelievers who would try to harm them, and that their service would be acceptable to the saints wherever they are, and acceptable to You. May Your peace be with them. I ask that I would remain on guard, watching out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in my way that are contrary to to the teaching of Your Word. Help me to keep away from such people, for they are not serving Christ, but their own appetites. Do not let their smooth talk and flattery deceive me, but help me to remain strong in You and obedient, so that other believers can be full of joy over me. Help me to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil. I thank You that You will soon crush Satan under our feet. May the grace of the Lord Jesus be with me. Now to You, the One who is able to establish me by Your Gospel and the proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by Your command, eternal God, so that all nations might believe and obey You–to You, the only wise God be glory forever through Jesus Christ! Amen!
Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael Morgan

Ministries:

  • Provenance

CLF:

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for young children in our community

  • For Godly influences
  • For safety and protection from accidents, abuse, and predators
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For a heart to learn and to know God from a young age
  • That they will not be prodigals, but remain true to God all the days of their lives

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
