What does Paul’s prayer of thanks in verses 4-9 teach us about how we should live and how we should pray for others? What caused the divisions in this church? Why can no one boast before God?

Does Paul’s prayer describe me? Why or why not? Which would more closely describe the effect I have in my church: a source of division, or a contributor to unity? Do I rely on my own wisdom and understanding, or on God’s?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, As one who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I thank You that I am sanctified in Him. I ask that You would strengthen me to fulfill Your call to be holy. I thank You for the grace given to me in Christ Jesus, because in Him I have been enriched in every way. Let that truth shine through in my speaking and in all my knowledge, and so may the testimony of Christ be confirmed in me. I ask that my church would not lack any spiritual gift as we eagerly wait for the Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. I claim the promise that He will keep us strong until the end, so that we will blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. I believe this is true, because it is You, Father, who has called us into fellowship with Your Son, and You are always faithful. I ask that Your people would agree with each other in the name of Christ so there would be no divisions among us and that we may be united perfectly in mind and thought. Though the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Thank You for using such “foolishness” to confound the “wise” and to save those who believe. We proclaim that Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God, our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. So, as it is written, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Unity in the Body of Christ…

  • that we would be united in our love for Jesus and each other
  • that we would encourage and support each other
  • that we would focus on Biblical principles in every arena of our lives
  • that we would have a spirit of cooperation in outreach
  • that Satan’s divisive strategies would be confounded

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. – John 15:5
