1 Corinthians 11:2-34

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

For what did Paul praise the Corinthians? Why did Paul feel it was important to describe the relationship of women to God, Christ, and men? Why do we observe The Lord’s Supper?

Pagan cults in Corinth practiced ecstatic, sensual worship involving long loose hair, nudity, and even ritual sex with prostitutes. How does this shed light on the instructions in this passage regarding women and corporate worship? The Greek word translated “head” in verse 3 means “origin”; what light does that shed on the passage? When I partake of Communion at church, am I focused on the form (the way my church does it), or on the purpose and spiritual meaning?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, I ask that You would help me to remember those who have instructed me properly in the faith, to hold to the teaching from Your Word, and to have and keep a proper biblical understanding of men and women and our roles in worship and our relationships with each other and with You, even when those views are not popular or “politically correct.” Thank You for the establishment and continued observance of The Lord’s Supper in worship. May I always use that time to focus on Christ and what He has done for me, and examine myself and make sure I am right with You. May it be a time that brings unity to the church, and never division. May we remember Christ and His love for us and His command for us to love each other every time we partake of it. In His precious Name I pray, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Joshua, Jonathan)
  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • For the salvation of lost friends, relatives, neighbors, etc.

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for the poor & imprisoned

  • Salvation
  • That they will trust in God’s provision
  • That they will have hope
  • For mentors in the prison/jail system

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18
