1 Corinthians 12

Does having a particular spiritual gift make one superior to others with different gifts? Why does Paul use the analogy of the different parts of the human body to describe the church?

Do I feel/act superior (or inferior) to others based on the way the Spirit has gifted us? If so, what can I do to get the proper attitude? How can I use my gift(s) for the good of the Body of Christ to help build it up in unity?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for including teaching like this passage in Your Word so that I do not have to be ignorant regarding spiritual gifts. I thank You that all the different gifts come from the same Spirit, that the different kinds of service are for the same Lord, to glorify the same God. I thank You for giving different believers different manifestations of Your Spirit for the common good. Help me to be sure to use mine for that purpose. Help me to focus on the Giver, not on the gifts. Remind me that I am a part of the Body of Christ, and I need to do my part for it to function as a unit. Thank You for arranging all the different parts of the Body of Christ just as You wanted them to be. Rather than compare myself to the other parts, may I ever be grateful that I am a part and thankful for the rest of the parts, and work in unity with them.In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Scott & Kristi Guinn
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Patrick Hall
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for our national leaders

  • God’s anointing on them and a desire in them to follow Him
  • For Jesus to once again be Lord and King over our nation
  • For the president and cabinet to seek after God
  • For judges to rule justly and righteously
  • For senators & representatives to pass godly legislation and block sinful bills
  • That our government would protect its citizens and punish evildoers

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18
