Observation

From where does wisdom come? Why did the rulers of the time crucify Jesus?

Application

How does verse nine encourage me to remain steadfast in the faith? How can I know what God wants me to learn? How will reminding myself of the truth in verses 10-13 help me to contribute to maintaining unity in my church?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Father God, While there are so many “worldly-wise” philosophers attempting to learn “deep things”, I resolve to know nothing except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. My faith does not rest on men’s wisdom, but on Your power. The message of the Gospel is wisdom among the mature, but it is not the wisdom of this world’s philosophies or of its rulers, who are coming to nothing. No, it is Your wisdom, which had been kept secret and hidden, that You destined for our glory before time began, revealed in Jesus Christ our Lord. The rulers of this world did not understand it, or they would not have crucified Him. I thank You and praise You, Lord, that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has conceived what you have prepared for those who love You, but You reveal it to us by Your Spirit. Thank You that the Holy Spirit searches the deep things and knows Your mind and teaches me through Your Word. Thank You Holy Spirit, for revealing the Father’s truth to me–truth that neither I nor anyone else in the history of the world until its end could ever discover without You. I thank You that because I have received Christ, You dwell within me, and I am able to accept what You reveal. Thank You that through You, I have the mind of Christ. In the precious Name of Jesus my Savior I pray, Amen!
