Observation

How does coarse joking differ from clean fun and a hearty belly laugh? What are the proactive things that Paul instructs us to seek in our lives?

Application

What positive changes do I see in my life as I grow in Christ? What areas do I still need to turn over to God in sacrificial obedience?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, Thank You for the cleansing blood of Jesus! I renounce sexual immorality, impurity, and greed, for these things are improper for Your holy people. Keep me from obscenity, foolish talk, and coarse joking, and replace them with thanksgiving. Immoral, impure, and greedy people bring Your wrath; therefore, keep me from being partners with them. For I was once in darkness, but now I’m in Your light. So empower me to live as a child of the light and to find out what pleases You. I want nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness. If there are any such areas in my life, expose them to me so that I may repent of them. Remind me to be very careful how I live: not as unwise, but wise, making the most of every opportunity, for the days are evil. Let me not be foolish, but help me to understand Your will. Instead of filling up with wine until I’m drunk, I ask that You would fill me with Your Spirit. May I share in the joy and unity of the new life with my fellow believers, speaking to them in ways that will edify and encourage them, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, making music in my heart to You, always giving thanks to You for everything, and submitting to Your people out of reverence for Christ. I pray these things in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Joshua, Jonathan, Sophia)
  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • For the salvation of lost friends, relatives, neighbors, etc.

Missionaries:

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

CLF:

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. – James 1:5
