Observation
How are Christians to interact with each other? How did Christ demonstrate humility? What did the Father do as a result?
Application
How hard do I work at building and maintaining unity? Do I “have the mind of Christ”? Am I humble before God and His people?
Prayer
Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, Thank You for the encouragement from being united with Christ, for the comfort from His love, for the common sharing in the Spirit, and for His tenderness and compassion. Help me to be like-minded with my brothers and sisters in Christ, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. May I do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility help me to value others above myself, not looking only to my own interests but also to the interests of others. In my relationships with others, may I have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with You something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore, You exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to Your glory, Father! I thank You in the mighty and precious Name of Jesus, Amen!
Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:
- B – BODY (physical health)
- L – Labor (their job or school)
- E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
- S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
- S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)
