LIFe with God: January 5

Hebrews 4:1-13

Read or listen to today’s passage at Bible Gateway:

Why is simply hearing a message from God not enough? Why is God’s Word likened to a sword?

Do I simply hear the Word of God, or do I receive it in faith? Is there evidence that the Word is living and effective in my life?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father in Heaven, Help me to be careful not to allow Your Word to simply go in one ear and out the other; may I always combine it with faith. Thank You that because I believe the Good News of Jesus Christ, I will enter Your rest. Keep me from hardening my heart to You, but let Your living and effective Word permeate my life, and grant that I would respond to it in faith and obedience.  In Christ’s name I pray,  Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Scott & Kristi Guinn
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Patrick Hall
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.
