Scripture

2 Peter 1:12-21 (NET)

(1) Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have. (13) Indeed, as long as I am in this tabernacle, I consider it right to stir you up by way of a reminder, (14) since I know that my tabernacle will soon be removed, because our Lord Jesus Christ revealed this to me. (15) Indeed, I will also make every effort that, after my departure, you have a testimony of these things. (16) For we did not follow cleverly concocted fables when we made known to you the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ; no, we were eyewitnesses of his grandeur. (17) For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory: “This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted.” (18) When this voice was conveyed from heaven, we ourselves heard it, for we were with him on the holy mountain. (19) Moreover, we possess the prophetic word as an altogether reliable thing. You do well if you pay attention to this as you would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. (20) Above all, you do well if you recognize this: No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination, (21) for no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Observation

Why is it so important to study God’s Word? From where does prophecy originate?

Application

Do I base my lifestyle and decisions on the authority of Scripture? Do I need to remind myself where Scripture originates?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Lord God, Build in me a desire to spend time in Your Word daily, so that I can be reminded constantly of Your truth. For I do not follow cleverly concocted fables, but the power and return of our Lord Jesus Christ. For He received honor and glory from You, Father, when Your voice was conveyed to Him by the Majestic Glory: “This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted.” Moreover, I believe that Your Word is an altogether reliable thing, and that I do well if I pay attention to it as I would to a light shining in a murky place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in my heart. Above all, help me to always recognize this: No prophecy of scripture ever comes about by the prophet’s own imagination, for no prophecy was ever borne of human impulse; rather, men carried along by the Holy Spirit spoke from You. Thank You for this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael Morgan

Ministries:

  • Provenance
  • Genesis World Mission

CLF:

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:

And the world is passing away with all its desires, but the person who does the will of God remains forever. – 1 John 2:17 (NET)
