Scripture

2 Peter 3:1-10 (NET)

(1) Dear friends, this is already the second letter I have written you, in which I am trying to stir up your pure mind by way of reminder: (2) I want you to recall both the predictions foretold by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through your apostles. (3) Above all, understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urges (4) and saying, “Where is his promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.” (5) For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water. (6) Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water. (7) But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, by being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. (8) Now, dear friends, do not let this one thing escape your notice, that a single day is like a thousand years with the Lord and a thousand years are like a single day. (9) The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some regard slowness, but is being patient toward you, because he does not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. (10) But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; when it comes, the heavens will disappear with a horrific noise, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze, and the earth and every deed done on it will be laid bare.

Observation

Why hasn’t Jesus come yet?

Application

How should I respond to people who scoff about Jesus not having come yet?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Heavenly Father, Stir up my mind by way of reminder: I want to recall both the predictions foretold by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior through Your apostles. Above all, may I understand this: In the last days blatant scoffers will come, being propelled by their own evil urges and saying, “Where is his promised return? For ever since our ancestors died, all things have continued as they were from the beginning of creation.” For they deliberately suppress this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water. Through these things the world existing at that time was destroyed when it was deluged with water. But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, by being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. May I not let this one thing escape my notice, that a single day is like a thousand years with You, Lord, and a thousand years are like a single day. I thank You that You are not slow concerning Your promise, as some regard slowness, but You are being patient toward mankind, because You do not wish for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. I believe You that the day of the Lord will come like a thief; when it comes, the heavens will disappear with a horrific noise, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze, and the earth and every deed done on it will be laid bare. I pray these things in the name of the Lord Jesus, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Amy & Debbie Brueggemann
  • Chris Carlton
  • Travis & Hali Davidson
  • Mike Daniels
  • Theresa Daniels
  • Brian & Eileen Davis

Missionaries:

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

CLF:

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for our state leaders…

  • Governor & his advisers
  • Judges
  • state senators and representatives
  • that they would all be faithful in carrying out their duties justly
  • that they would submit themselves to God

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit – Matthew 28:19 (NET)
