Scripture

2 Peter 3:11-18 (NET)

(1)  Since all these things are to melt away in this manner, what sort of people must we be, conducting our lives in holiness and godliness, (12) while waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God? Because of this day, the heavens will be burned up and dissolve, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze! (13) But, according to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness truly resides. (14) Therefore, dear friends, since you are waiting for these things, strive to be found at peace, without spot or blemish, when you come into his presence. (15) And regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as also our dear brother Paul wrote to you, according to the wisdom given to him, (16) speaking of these things in all his letters. Some things in these letters are hard to understand, things the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they also do to the rest of the scriptures. (17) Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard that you do not get led astray by the error of these unprincipled men and fall from your firm grasp on the truth. (18) But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the honor both now and on that eternal day.

Observation

How are we to live as we await Christ’s return?

Application

Am I the sort of person described in this passage? If not, why not?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father God, Since all these things are to melt away in this manner, help me to conduct my life in holiness and godliness, while waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God! Because of this day, the heavens will be burned up and dissolve, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze! But, according to Your promise, I am waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness truly resides. Therefore, since I am waiting for these things, may I be found at peace, without spot or blemish, when I come into Your presence. I regard Your patience as salvation, just as also the Apostle Paul wrote, according to the wisdom given to him, speaking of these things in all his letters. Some things in these letters are hard to understand, things the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they also do to the rest of the scriptures. Therefore, since I have been forewarned, help me to be on guard that I do not get led astray by the error of these unprincipled men and fall from a firm grasp on the truth. But let me grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the honor both now and on that eternal day. Amen!

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Joshua, Jonathan, Sophia)
  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend

Missionaries:

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

CLF:

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for marriages in our community…

  • that Christ-like love would be exhibited
  • for good communication between spouses
  • for unity in finances
  • salvation for non-believing spouses
  • that they would balance work and home life
  • that Godly friends and mentors would come alongside them.

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit – Matthew 28:19 (NET)
