LIFe with God: February 16

Posted on February 16, 2011

1 John 1 (NET)

(1) This is what we proclaim to you: what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and our hands have touched (concerning the word of life — (2) and the life was revealed, and we have seen and testify and announce to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us). (3) What we have seen and heard we announce to you too, so that you may have fellowship with us (and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ). (4) Thus we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. (5) Now this is the gospel message we have heard from him and announce to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all. (6) If we say we have fellowship with him and yet keep on walking in the darkness, we are lying and not practicing the truth. (7) But if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (8) If we say we do not bear the guilt of sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. (9) But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.

How can we have fellowship with God and other believers? How are we to deal with sin?

Do I walk in the light, fellowshipping with God and His people? Do I confess my sins and claim His forgiveness, or do I wallow in self-pity and self-loathing and defeat?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father in Heaven, Thank Your for revealing to Your Apostles what was from the beginning, what they heard, what they saw with their eyes, what they looked at and their hands touched concerning the Word of Life. Thank You for leading them by Your Spirit to testify and announce the eternal life that was with You and was revealed to them in the person of Jesus Christ. Thank You that I have fellowship with them, with Your people, and indeed, fellowship with You, Father, and with Your Son Jesus Christ. Help me to dwell on these things so that my joy may be complete. Thank You for the gospel message: You are light, and in You there is no darkness at all. If I say I have fellowship with You and yet keep on walking in the darkness, I’m lying and not practicing the truth. But thank You that if I walk in the light as You are in the light, I have fellowship with You and with Your people, and the blood of Jesus Your Son cleanses me from all sin. If I say I do not bear the guilt of sin, I’m deceiving myself and the truth is not in me. But I thank You and praise You that if I confess my sins, You are faithful and righteous, forgiving my sins and cleansing me from all unrighteousness. If I say I have not sinned, I make You a liar and Your word is not in me. So I proclaim that I am a sinner, and I thank you for saving me! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Scott & Kristi Guinn
  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • Patrick Hall
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit – Matthew 28:19 (NET)
