What does this passage tell us regarding those who prohibit marriage and require abstaining from certain foods? How are we to nourish ourselves spiritually? How are we to be good servants of Jesus?

Do I allow myself to be carried away with side issues from false teachers, like the prohibition of marriage or certain foods? Do I nourish myself on the words of the faith and the good teaching of God’s Word? Do I share that with my family in the Lord?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank You for the amazing revelation that Jesus was revealed in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among Gentiles, believed on in the world, and taken up in glory! Help me to keep my focus on Him, not getting carried away by those who have deserted the faith and occupy themselves with deceiving spirits, teaching demonic doctrines like the prohibition of marriage and of consuming certain foods. I thank You that any food received with thanksgiving is sanctified by prayer and Your Word. Help me to be a good servant of Christ by pointing these things out to my spiritual siblings, and nourish me on Your Word. Help me to reject myths that are only fit for the godless and gullible, and train myself in godliness, which holds promise for this present life and the one to come. Strengthen me to work hard and struggle, because I have set my hope on You, the living God, the Savior of all people, especially of believers. I ask this in the name of the One who gave Himself for me, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for our state leaders…

  • Governor & his advisers
  • Judges
  • state senators and representatives
  • that they would all be faithful in carrying out their duties justly
  • that they would submit themselves to God

No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. – Luke 16:13 (NET)
