Observation

What does this passage teach us regarding the church’s role toward those who cannot work versus those who will not work? What does Paul have to say about elders here? What about the slave-master (employee-employer) relationship?

Application

Do I ascribe to the biblical perspective regarding the above issues?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I ask that You would help me to renew my mind by Your Word, so that I will have Your perspective on things like welfare, financial aid from the church, the treatment of elders, and the role of an employee toward an employer. Wherever my perspective is off-course from Yours, move on me by Your Spirit to bring it in line with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Keith Rast
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

Ministry:

  • Boise Rescue Mission

CLF:

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Boise & Garden City…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • Gowan Field Military Base

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. – Luke 16:13 (NET)
