What important instruction did Paul give Timothy in verse 15? Why was Timothy to avoid profane chatter?

Do I make every effort to be a proven worker before God? Do I keep away from talk that spreads ungodliness like gangrene?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Help me to be disciplined in my walk with You. I pray that I would always remember Christ, raised from the dead, and be willing to endure all things for the sake of this gospel and those who have received it. May I not wrangle with Your people over words, because it is of no benefit but just brings ruin on those who listen. May I make every effort to present myself before You as a proven worker who does not need to be ashamed, teaching Your message accurately. Remind me to avoid profane chatter, which cause people to stray further and further into ungodliness and spreads its infection like gangrene. I thank You for the solid foundation of Your Word, which tells me that you know those who are Yours. As one who confesses the name of Jesus, empower me to turn away from evil, so that I may be Your vessel, able to be put to honorable use, set apart, useful for You, prepared for every good work. I ask this in the name of the One who gave Himself for me, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.
