Observation

How are we to act toward those in authority? What are we to avoid?

Application

Am I obedient to and peaceable with those in authority? Do I keep away from arguments for their own sake and from people whose goal is to cause division in the body of Christ?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Help me to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work. May I not slander anyone, but be peaceable, gentle, showing complete courtesy to all people. For I, too, was once foolish, disobedient, misled, enslaved to various passions and desires, spending my life in evil and envy, hateful and hating others. I thank You that when Your kindness and Your love for mankind appeared You saved us, not by works of righteousness that we have done but on the basis of Your mercy, through the washing of the new birth and the renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom You poured out on us in full measure through Jesus Christ our Savior. And so, since I have been justified by Your grace, You made me an heir with the confident expectation of eternal life. Because I have placed my faith in You, may I be intent on engaging in good works that are good and beneficial for all people. Help me to avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, quarrels, and fights about the law, because they are useless and empty. Strengthen me to reject a divisive person after one or two warnings, for such a person is twisted by sin and is conscious of it himself. May I make every effort to help other believers You place in my path, and make sure they have what they need, for this is another way that I can learn to engage in good works to meet pressing needs and so not be unfruitful. I ask this in the name of the One who gave Himself for me, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Teachers & Administrators & School Boards

  • Godly curriculum
  • God’s wisdom in teaching and leading
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Ability to inspire a love of truth and learning

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Your conduct must be free from the love of money and you must be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you.” – Hebrews 13:5 (NET)
