Observation

What does this passage reveal about those who teach that true Spirit-filled Christians won’t have any problems in this life? What was Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians?

Application

How do I respond when affliction comes into my life? Do I pray for myself and my fellow Christians to increase and abound in love for one another?

Prayer

Dear Jesus, Help me to have Paul’s attitude toward affliction; to understand that in this life we are destined to suffer, and to be more concerned about living for You and about the needs and spiritual health of others than about the difficulties I must endure. I ask that You would cause Your people (including me) to increase and abound in love for one another and for all, so that our hearts are strengthened in holiness to be blameless before our God and Father at Your coming with all Your saints. In Your name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Keith Rast
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

Ministry:

  • Boise Rescue Mission

CLF:

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for the salvation of the lost

  • Readiness to repent
  • Hearts prepared to hear God’s voice
  • A Deep dissatisfaction and unrest with life without Him
  • Godly influences
