Jonah 3-4

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What were the responses: 1) Of the people of Ninevah to the Word of God? 2) Of God to the people of Ninevah? 3) Of Jonah to God’s response to Ninevah?

How do I respond to God’s Word? How do I respond when God chooses to show mercy and forgiveness to those I don’t care for?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father, Thank You for the love, grace and mercy You show by warning people and offering them a chance to repent before You rain down Your judgment. And thank You that if people respond with repentance, You relent and save them. Keep me from having a heart like Jonah, who wallowed in self-pity when You chose to show mercy to his enemies who repented. Instead, help me to follow Jesus’ instruction in Matthew 5:44 to love my enemies and pray for those who persecute me. In Jesus’ name I ask this, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Chris & DeAnn Smith (Sasha, Noah, Gavin)
  • Danielle Youngblood (Kayla, Kendra)
  • Janeth & Moy
  • Brook & Erica Butts (Brooklyn, Boston)

  • Chapel Mission India

  • That we would be devoted to thanksgiving and praise to our Lord–for what He has done, for what He is doing, for what He will do, and for who He is–in good times and bad.

Community: Pray for single adults…

  • To embrace Christ as their best friend and lover of their souls
  • To more fully grasp the family heart of God
  • That God will bring them Godly friends to care for and support them
  • That God will give them a peace and drive away lonliness
  • That God will provide them with meaningful work & ministry in which to use their gifts

  • Jenn Austring
  • Sher Brodoski
  • Debbie & Amy Brueggemann
  • Chris Carlton

  • Lito Dictican, Port of Tacoma

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for your neighbors…

  • That God would provide opportunities for you to minister to them
  • That unbelievers would receive Christ as Savior and Lord
  • For their marriages / family relationships
  • For their finances / employment
  • Any specific needs of which you’re aware

From that time Jesus began to preach this message: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” – Matthew 4:17 (NET)
