Psalms 22-23

What important New Testament event does Psalm 22 foreshadow? Why does the picture of God as a shepherd comfort David?

Am I grateful to the One who was forsaken by God on my behalf, and who said He would never leave me or forsake me? Do I trust in God to provide everything for me and to protect me as a shepherd does with his sheep?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father God, Thank You for the Old Testament prophecies that were fulfilled in Christ. I thank You that You are enthroned on the praises of Your people. Our fathers trusted in You and You rescued them. You created me and have been my God from my mother’s womb. I owe You everything and will ever praise You. I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; I will praise You in the congregation. I will give praise in the great congregation because of You; I will fulfill my vows before those who fear You. All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before You.

Because You are my Shepherd, I lack nothing. You let me lie down in green pastures; You lead me beside quiet waters. You renew my life; You lead me along the right paths for Your name’s sake. Even when I go through the darkest valley, I fear no danger, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff–they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in Your house forever. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Ken & Twilla Eden (Joshua, Jonathan, Sophia)
  • Gil & Lois Estes
  • Gary Friend
  • Scott & Kristi Guinn

  • J & G Simon, missionaries to Austria

  • Ask that we would be a church that is devoted to true fellowship: Pray that we would be encouraged from being united with Christ, comforted by His love, bonded with His Spirit, tender and compassionate with one another. Pray that we would be like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Ask that we would do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider one another better than ourselves, looking not only to our own interests, but also to the interests of each other. Pray that we would all have the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus.

Community: Pray for business professionals providing goods and services

  • God to be glorified by excellent work
  • Ministry to occur in the workplace
  • Godly employers and employees
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • Sound financial strategies
  • Strong, God-honoring relationships

For in the gospel God’s righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, “The righteous will live by faith.” – Romans 1:17 (ISV)
