Scripture

Joshua 5-6

Observation

Who was the Commander of the Lord’s Army described in 5:13-14 (hint: check 5:15 and 6:2)? What message did He have for Joshua (6:2)? What verb tense (past, present, or future) did He use?

Application

In chapter one, God told Joshua 3 times to be strong & courageous. In chapters 5-6, the pre-incarnate Christ personally came to Joshua and told him the battle had already been won. Romans 8:37 tells us the same is true for us in our lives. How does this affect my ability to be strong and courageous in my daily life?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father in Heaven, Thank You for Jesus Christ, the Commander of the Army of the Lord! Thank You for His appearance and encouraging words to Joshua, explaining that the battle had already been won by His power. And thank You for the Gospel and the New Testament, which show that the same Commander and Captain of our Faith has come into the life of everyone who trusts in Him and He has already won the battle for us, too! Thank You, Father, in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ! Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

Ministry:

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

CLF:

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for Boise & Garden City…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • Gowan Field Military Base

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order to know what has been freely given to us by God. – 1 Corinthians 2:12 (HCSB)
