Joshua 8

What did God tell Joshua in verse 1 to bolster him for a 2nd attack against Ai? What was the outcome?

Is there an area in my life right now where I need to trust God and not be afraid or discouraged, taking new ground even though I’ve been defeated before? Have I learned from this and the preceding chapters the difference between attempting something with my confidence in my own strength as opposed to God’s strength?

Dear Lord, Even though Israel met a terrible defeat at AI due to their disobedience and self-assurance, You came and encouraged Joshua to go do the same task without fear in Your strength, and they emerged victorious. Help me to trust You and not be afraid or discouraged when You give me a mission, even if I’ve been defeated previously in my own strength in that same mission. Help me to undertake the challenge not in my own self-assurance, but totally relying on You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Keith Rast
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

  • Boise Rescue Mission

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Meridian

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials

Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, in order to know what has been freely given to us by God. – 1 Corinthians 2:12 (HCSB)
