Proverbs 12

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

What effect does wisdom have on one’s speech? How is discretion part of wisdom (23)? How can our speech affect others in trying times (25)?

Do I show that I am pursuing the wisdom of God by my speech? Do I exercise discretion when appropriate? When I interact with someone who is anxious, do I offer a good word to cheer the heart?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father in Heaven, I ask that Your Holy Spirit would work in me and train me to be disciplined in my speech, so that I would show Your wisdom through the words that I speak. Help me to exercise discretion and not act on my foolish human impulses, but rather submit them to Your will and Your way. May I be an encouragement to others, offering a good word to cheer their hearts when they are facing anxiety. I ask these things in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike & Jamie Haberkorn (Hannah, Sean)
  • David & MaryBeth Hollander (Cole, Marcus)
  • Bob & Peggy Hoover

  • Chrysalis Women’s Transitional Housing

  • Pray that we would be a church that is dedicated to the breaking of bread, both in the sense of being devoted to observing the Lord’s Supper, and in meeting together for meals to fellowship, to deepen bonds, to heal offenses, and to end disputes.

Community: Pray for our state leaders…

  • Governor & his advisers
  • Judges
  • state senators and representatives
  • that they would all be faithful in carrying out their duties justly
  • that they would submit themselves to God

Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. – Colossians 3:16 (HCSB)
