Proverbs 14

Observation

What is the consequence of following my fleshly, flawed perception of what is right rather than God’s Word (verse 12, 27)? How is the Golden Rule explained in this chapter (verse 21)? What physical impact do contentment and greed cause (verse 30)?

Application

Do I get caught in the trap of stubbornly holding to what I think is right, even if it is contrary to God’s Word? How do I treat the people in my sphere of influence? Do I rest in the tranquility of contentment in Christ, or do I allow jealously, envy, and covetousness to “rot my bones”?

Prayer

Dear Lord, Though there may be a way that seems right to me, if it is not Your way, it leads to death. Therefore, I humble myself before You and submit my ways to Yours. I trust You and I fear you, Lord, for You are a fountain of life and my rescue from the snares of death. I ask that You would deliver me from all greed, envy, jealousy, and coveting, which cause rot physically as well as spiritually, and give me a tranquil heart that rests in You in perfect contentment and peace. Thank You, Father! In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Doug & Pam Patchin
  • Jared & Amanda Patchin (Alex, Luke)
  • Keith Rast
  • Andrea Rodriguez (Willie, Yulieta)

Ministry:

  • Boise Rescue Mission

CLF:

  • That we will be people who are devoted to giving to the Lord’s work and to anyone who has a need.

Community: Pray for Mountain Home…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • For the air base: safety for military and their families (especially those who are deployed), sound military strategies by commanders, impact for Christ in areas where deployed

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
Let the message about the Messiah dwell richly among you, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, and singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, with gratitude in your hearts to God. – Colossians 3:16 (HCSB)
