Exodus 33

What did the people do when the pillar of cloud descended on the tent of meeting? How did God communicate with Moses (11)?

So often modern Christians diminish God by focusing on just one part of His character: they either fail to give Him the reverence he deserves and treat Him flippantly, or they are so formal that they become cold and distant. What does this passage and the New Testament teach about reverence and a warm, personal relationship with God, and what do I need to do to get them in balance?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Father God, You are holy, righteous, and just, and You Alone deserve all glory, honor, and praise! Forgive me for treating you as if You were just another human, and help me to show You the reverence that is due to You. But on the other hand, You said that I can call You my father and come boldly before You. Jesus said He wanted His people to come like chicks to a mother hen. So keep me from “formalizing” my reverence to a point where i don’t have that warm, devotional relationship with You where I can come before you boldly with any and every need. Teach me the proper balance between reverence for you and a personal relationship with You. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael Morgan

  • Provenance
  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for Boise & Garden City…

  • That city leaders would submit to God
  • That people can find and keep gainful employment
  • For sound financial management by city officials
  • Salvation for unbelievers
  • For the mayor, city council members, and public works officials
  • Gowan Field Military Base

Finally then, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you must walk and please God—as you are doing—do so even more. – 1 Thessalonians 4:1 (HCSB)
