Philippians 3

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

Why did Paul warn them to watch out for those who taught Christians must be circumcised (3)? How important was knowing Christ to Paul? To what are we called (12-15)?

Do I fall into legalism’s trap of adding things I can do to the cross in order to be accepted by God? Is knowing Christ of such surpassing value to me that everything else is filth compared to Him? Do I dwell in past regret or rest on my laurels, or do I forget what is behind and reach forward, pursuing the prize Christ promised?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear Father of grace, Please keep me from anything that would lead me to try to earn righteousness or salvation. My hope is in Christ alone, and I put no confidence in my own flesh! Give me a heart that considers everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Teach me to consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ—the righteousness from You based on faith. Remind me that I have not already attained this and I am not yet fully mature, but help me to make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. I do not consider myself to have taken hold of it, but I want to forget what is behind and reach forward to what is ahead, pursuing as my goal the prize promised by Your heavenly call in Christ Jesus. In the name of Christ Jesus to Your glory I pray this. Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries.

  • Chris & DeAnn Smith (Sasha, Noah, Gavin, Natalie)
  • Danielle Youngblood (Kayla, Kendra)
  • Moy & Janeth Ortiz
  • Brook & Erica Butts (Brooklyn, Boston)

  • Chapel Mission India

  • That we would be devoted to thanksgiving and praise to our Lord–for what He has done, for what He is doing, for what He will do, and for who He is–in good times and bad.

Community: Pray for area pastors and their families:

  • Encouragement
  • Faithfulness in the Lord’s work
  • Finances
  • Marriage/family relationships
  • Work/life balance
  • Deep friendships and support from other Christian leaders

  • Jenn Austring
  • Sher Brodoski
  • Debbie & Amy Brueggemann
  • Chris Carlton

  • Lito Dictican

  • That we will be devoted to evangelism and growth; that the Lord will add to our numbers those who are being saved.

Community: Pray for the salvation of the lost

  • Readiness to repent
  • Hearts prepared to hear God’s voice
  • A Deep dissatisfaction and unrest with life without Him
  • Godly influences
