Genesis 25

Click here to read today’s passage on Bible Gateway

How did Isaac show that he had faith that God would keep the promise He had made to his father (21a)? How did God show that He was faithful and in control (21b-23)? How did Esau show that he was more considered with physical desires and impulses than things of greater and more lasting value?

Am I setting an example of faith in God that is influencing others? Do I take my needs to God and trust Him to fulfill His promises? Do I place immediate physical urges and impulses above things of greater and more lasting value?

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:

Dear God my Father, Thank You for Your servant Abraham, the man of faith, and for the example he set not only for Isaac, but for all generations to follow. May I trust in You to such an extent that those who remain when I am gone will want to trust you, too. Thank You for keeping Your covenant to Abraham, that Isaac was the son of promise through whom a great nation and the Messiah would come. Please help me to learn from Esau’s negative example: may I never place my desire for instant gratification of physical desires above the things that really matter. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Pray to BLESS!

One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Pat & Hannah Kelley
  • Fred & Shirley Leonard
  • Mark & Michelle Morgan (Cody, Kyle)
  • Michael Morgan

  • Provenance
  • Genesis World Mission

  • That we will devote ourselves to prayer, individually, in small groups, and as a church.

Community: Pray for Unity in the Body of Christ…

  • that we would be united in our love for Jesus and each other
  • that we would encourage and support each other
  • that we would focus on Biblical principles in every arena of our lives
  • that we would have a spirit of cooperation in outreach
  • that Satan’s divisive strategies would be confounded

Not that I have already reached the goal or am already fully mature, but I make every effort to take hold of it because I also have been taken hold of by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 3:12 (HCSB)
