Observation

How do we know we have crossed over from death to life? How are we to love one another (verses 16-18)? How can we tell if a teacher is from God or not?

Application

Does the way that I treat other Christians reveal that I am a child of God? Am I loving them with just my words, or REALLY loving them? Am I careful to analyze the teaching I hear to be completely sure it is Christ-centered?

Prayer

Pray today’s Scripture back to God:
Dear Father, Give me a heart that loves Your children, not like Cain who was of the evil one and brutally murdered his brother, because his deeds were evil, but his brother’s were righteous. May I not be surprised if the world hates me. But help me love other believers, because we know that we have crossed over from death to life because we love our fellow Christians. The one who does not love remains in death, and everyone who hates his fellow Christian is a murderer, and no murderer has eternal life residing in him. I do not want to be like that. I have come to know love by this: that Jesus laid down his life for me; thus I ought to lay down my life for my fellow Christians. So if I have the world’s possessions and see my fellow Christian in need, let me not shut off my compassion against him; how can the love of God reside in such a person? Let me not love with word or with tongue but in deed and truth. For by this I will know that I am of the truth and will convince my conscience in Your presence: that even if my conscience condemns me, that You are greater than my conscience and know all things. And if my conscience does not condemn me, I have confidence in Your presence, and whatever I ask I will receive from You, because I keep Your commandments and do the things that are pleasing to You. I now agree with and submit to Your commandment: that I believe in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ and love my fellow Christians, just as You gave us the commandment. Help me keeps Your commandments and reside in You, and You in me. This is how I know that You reside in me: by the Spirit You have given me. Therefore, I will not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to determine if they are from You, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this I know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses Jesus as the Christ who has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God, and this is the spirit of the antichrist, which is coming, and now is already in the world. I am from God and have conquered them, because the one who is in me is greater than the one who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world’s perspective and the world listens to them. We who believe in Christ are from You; the person who knows You listens to us, but whoever is not from You does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deceit. Thank You for Your love, for Your Son, and for Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Pray to BLESS!
One good way to pray for people is to use the acronym BLESS to pray for God’s blessing on every area of their lives:

  • B – BODY (physical health)
  • L – Labor (their job or school)
  • E – Emotions (emotional health as well as guarding against letting emotions rule)
  • S – Social (relationships with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, church, etc)
  • S – Spiritual (remaining true to God and growing in Him)

Spend some time praying for the following people and ministries:

  • Mike Daniels
  • Theresa Daniels
  • Travis & Hali Davidson (Andrew)
  • Brian & Eileen Davis
  • Patti Doty

Missionaries:

  • Tim & Miranda Penn (Samid, Sarah), missionaries to Albania

CLF:

  • That Christian Life Fellowship would be a church that is devoted to the Word of God, and that we would be doers of it and not just hearers; that we would study the Word and so always be prepared to give everyone an answer–in season and out of season–and be approved workers who do not need to be ashamed, able to accurately understand and explain it.

Community: Pray for area pastors and their families:

  • Encouragement
  • Faithfulness in the Lord’s work
  • Finances
  • Marriage/family relationships
  • Work/life balance
  • Deep friendships and support from other Christian leaders

MEMORY VERSE OF THE WEEK:
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace – Ephesians 1:7 (HCSB)
